AMY RICHTER - is the Junior Choir Director for St. Philip’s Church. Mrs. Richter is a NYS K-12 certified music educator, and is recently retired after 39 years of teaching in public and private schools in both NY and NJ. She holds a Bachelor of Music in Oboe from Manhattan School of Music and a Master of Music in Education, also from MSM. More recently, Mrs. Richter completed extensive training in World Music Drumming with Will Schmid and Sowah Mensah, studied advanced rehearsal techniques with Ed Lisk, and studied music technology with Scott Watson at Villanova University and Stefani Langol at Central Connecticut State University. In August of 2018 Amy was trained as a Remo Healthrhythms® facilitator.

Mrs. Richter began her teaching career at Packer Collegiate Institute and Adelphi Academy in Brooklyn, instructing band, general music, and AP Music Theory. She then joined the faculty of the Union, NJ, public schools, where she taught band and orchestra to grades 4-6. After leaving Union in 1986 Mrs. Richter arrived at Blue Mountain Middle School in the Hendrick Hudson School District, where she served as band director and general and special education music teacher until her retirement in June, 2018.

Amy currently is the guitar instructor at the Hoving Home in Garrison, NY, and maintains a studio of private oboe students, as well. Mrs. Richter is a member of the National Association for Music Education, Women Band Directors International, New York State School Music Association, Westchester School Music Association, and the Choristers Guild. Mrs. Richter is a certified NYSSMA woodwind adjudicator, and has served as an online mentor for NaFME.

In her spare time you can find Mrs. Richter swimming laps at the pool, out for a walk, or at home listening to music, knitting, or enjoying a good book. She is married to Haldane English teacher Dr. Eric Richter, and they have two children, Paul, a corporate recruiter, and Liz, a professional singer and teacher at Music Together NYC.
